São Tomé and Príncipe, STP
GeoDynamics Research -Italy has signed contract to carry out a survey on the São Tomé and Príncipe islands in the Gulf of Guinea, off the Western equatorial coast of Central Africa. São Tomé and Príncipe is the second-smallest African country in terms of population.
The main objective of the GeoDynamics Research Geospectra IPDS® survey is to identify any on-shore prospect, including hydrocarbon subsurface pools. On the basis of client’s geological/geophysical materials, the measurement campaign will be divided into 4 separate target blocks, 2 on each island. The total area covered, i.e. the sum of all 4 blocks, is approximately 110 square km.
Overall, no substantial exploration studies have been made so far on the islands, although on-shore wells have been drilled in the past. Scouting expedition was conducted in the period September-October 2010. Local people were friendly.
The scouting expedition confirmed that the team might face difficulties with accessibility as some data points are located in the wild forests or in deep valleys, therefore some of the data points will be shifted before the actual survey.
